The power of friendship and valuable rewards: why playing in a party is worth it again

By KawaiiSocks on October 6, 2026

Dota 2 solo queue has always been famous for its ruthlessness, toxicity and unpredictability. Every game with four random allies is a lottery, where not only your hard-earned MMR is at stake, but also your mental health. Yet the developers keep reminding us more and more often: Dota 2 was designed as a team game.

The introduction of revamped co-op reward systems, special events, guild quests and shared-progress tokens radically changes the approach to the daily grind. If playing with friends used to be just a way to have a fun evening, today it is an effective tool for earning rare treasures, exclusive items and faster Battle Pass leveling.

The benefits of synergy: from winrate to treasures

The first and most obvious advantage of playing in a group is plain statistics. According to an analysis of a million matches on Dotabuff, the average winrate of players competing in a party of three or five is 7–12% higher than that of solo players at the same rating. Draft coordination, voice communication and the absence of tilt give a huge advantage.

But the developers went further, adding direct economic motivation for co-op matches:
Treasure rotation bonus: Playing in a group, you earn an increased amount of event points andDota Plus shards. Every co-op match brings 25–50% more progress in the weekly challenges.

Exclusive chests for guild tasks: Completing top-tier contracts together with your guildmates unlocks access to seasonal treasures containing rare item sets, unique emoticons and chat wheel phrases.

Faster ranked token gains: The role-based matchmaking system is much friendlier to parties: by filling the required roles together with friends, you spend less time on the routine and earn bonuses to profile experience.

How to maximize rewards per gaming session

For co-op games to bring not only enjoyment but also the maximum of valuable rewards, it is worth following a simple time-optimization strategy:

1. Combining guild contracts
Do not pick contracts at random. If your trio or five-stack chooses complementary tasks (for example, one takes neutral stacks, another ward placement, and a third building damage), you close 3–5 contracts at once in a single successful game. This gives a colossal boost to guild points and speeds up getting chests.

2. Picking synergistic hero combos
Playing in a group lets you pull off combinations unavailable in solo pubs due to the lack of communication:
Faceless Void + Snapfire / Invoker: guaranteed elimination of enemies inside the Chronosphere.
Mars + Phoenix: the classic combination of Arena of Blood and Supernova, leaving opponents minimal chances.
Centaur Warrunner + Rubick / Tiny: aggressive laning with powerful control in the early stage.

Wins with a high efficiency rating additionally increase the chance of bonus rewards dropping at the end of the week.

3. Weekly streak: A treasure for 3 wins in a row
The main news for all fans of team play was the introduction of a special bonus challenge for full groups. Now, for three wins in a row achieved with a five-player lineup (Full Stack), a new unique treasure is guaranteed.

This addition serves two important functions at once:

Maximum motivation for results: Every game in a full lineup feels like a real tournament final. The stakes are high, and the thrill of keeping a win streak gives matches a whole different level of intensity.

Exclusive farming of rare loot: Unlike the standard drop, the new treasure contains rare sets with updated ability effects, unique couriers and a chance to get an incredibly valuable item of Immortal quality.

If you assemble a team of five friends, your top priority is to agree on proven, meta picks. A mistake at the draft stage in the third game can cost you the entire series, so communication and discipline become your main key to getting the coveted chest.

maybe you could have mentioned some heroes on the role you were talking. dont know. talking about why those specific heroes are laning better after the changes

I feel like it is a universal meta shift that made Offlane feel much better in 7.41f. Theoretically, it should have made most Offlane heroes better off and since there is an Offlane hero on each team it's not like it's going to result in massive statistical changes.

It's just generally a less frustrating experience, which I am trying to highlight. While also reminding everyone that maybe... just maybe... Sniper and Zeus are shit pos4 and respective players should take at least 33% of the blame for why Offlane became a high-demand role.

I actually didnt remember vanguard was disassemblable, and itd certainly never crossed my mind that you can make khanda out of it. Top notch advice!

KawaiiSocksD14 days ago

Just to be clear: that wasn't an advice, just a cool bit of info)

I do not advise for people to go into games with the idea of "I will disassemble Vanguard into Khanda". Just something that is, surprisingly, an option

i queue offlane/mid and the best thing about playing offlane is the diversity of viable heroes and play styles, i don't need to play blink stun every game

I really liked the idea of using Vanguard for later items. Thanks for that. I usually build wraps right away, but other suggestions were useful. I would also add Aeon Disk to the list.

Other than that, I saw some Hoodwink four, but Lion could do real dmg from there.

Thanks for the linguistical correction my dear and favourite dota blogger, that was indeed what I meant. In many games, a break is necessary when you need to counter 2+ passives, and it can often be an option on an axe, bristle etc etc who like to build a vang in the first place

Initiators, counter - initiators, utility heroes and "carry-from-the-offlane" heroes, thats how I would classify offlaners

Very true and also thank you for VG love. Coupled with Soul Ring you get infinite sustain on all Offlaners. And of course you can upgrade it when you need to help your team tank.

Offlane is the least popular lane, due to carry heroes currently have a lot of their passive skills ( that they needed to put points into) rotated to a passive slot and got either new abilities or some stat/ dmg buffs, making them a lot stronger than they used to be, in earlier levels. Additionally, pos 4 players in general tend to pick a lot of greedy heroes and simply play like they are second core, or on the other hand due to positions multiple choices, tend to not do anything for the lane, or game, and simply farm the lane once offlaner gives up on it and goes to jungle. In general, if you pick a strong meta hero, even if your pos 4 has little to no impact, you can manage, if you are playing offlaner who is reliant on pos 4, you are going to have a miserable expiriance.

it has always been fun :)

I report every pos 4 sniper

Nowadays I win a lot so yeah fun role again xD

My main bugbear with pos 3 right now is those who pick heros who like to join a fight after it's started rather than initiate a fight, Dawnbreaker and Earthshaker being good examples, when there is no one else on the team to tank the damage while we wait on their ultimate.

I feel this meta, at least in my bracket, is all about initiation: Ive had matches where 8 of 10 heroes had either a blink ability or a blink and it feels like the team wins that initiates first onto the other. I think that fact makes the meta very boring and stale for me.

recommending vanguard is terrible youre terrible at this game

There is like a handful of people who aren't so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Offlane remains the least fun and most demanding role.

I disagree about it being the most demanding role

Depends heavily on the type of offlaner

Positions 1 to 2, depending on the game, are more demanding imo

Position 1 is a survival game for the first 15 minutes mostly (other than current iteration of strong safelane combos), everybody wants to gank YOU first and foremost and shut you down; you are expected to be the main man an win the game later on or you are blamed

Position 2 has to rely only on himself most of the time, but has to care about ganks from other lanes, is expected to set the tempo of the game and snowball, and is the primary carry from minute 15 - 30/35, often the most blamed role if you lose

On to the next post kawaii, im ready

I was thinking of changing the schedule to Wed or Thu lately. Just an overall better day for posting content for some reason, as in it does better viewership-wise. Any thoughts?

Whatever suits the artist shall suit those consuming the art.

We will get used to it, though it did make for a fine monday morning motivation

KawaiiSocksD7 days ago

There is an added benefit of being the day after updates to Dota itself. Most of them come on Tue night for me, so if I switch to Wed, I'd be ready to talk about the update ASAP

Khanda on centaur late is good when playing vs something like bristle, and having vanguard on that hero is also nice.

Big.D.Jok4 days ago

The worst time to play offlane. Slightly better than the beginning of the patch but still terrible.
